Goods Shed at North Road Station, Darlington - Darlington (UA)

Built in 1833, the goods shed is an early component of the Stockton & Darlington railway terminal complex, the world's first modern railway. Extended in 1839-40, the building was the main goods handling facility for the railway. Single storey, it consists of two parallel ranges with external sandstone walls fashioned in a classical architectural style. There is evidence of structural movement and the building is vulnerable to heritage crime. Work is underway to help secure the future of the building and its wider setting as part of the Stockton & Darlington Railway Heritage Action Zone.
