Church of St George, Stamford Street, Mossley - Tameside
Gothic style church of 1879 by Davies-Coley with additions in 1887. Rockfaced stone walling with slate roof. Five bay nave, aisles and clerestory, chancel and vestries. Castellated tower of 3 stages with corner stair turret and clock-faces to second stage. A phase of work has been undertaken to the gutter between the chancel and tower, and a Minor Repairs Grant from the Taylor Review Pilot funded the replacement of the north aisle gutter in 2019. However, the main roof continues to deteriorate and there have been several outbreaks of dry rot associated with built-in roof timbers.
