Parish Church of St Martin, Herne Street, Herne, Herne and Broomfield - Canterbury

A large and very fine church, predominantly of the C14, but with substantial C19 restoration, with good monuments and medieval furnishings and brasses. The church is suffering from severely deteriorating stonework at the west end and low-level damp throughout. Tiles have slipped and rainwater goods are blocked and leaking. The first phase of repairs, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund Grants for Places of Worship, has now been completed, with the second phase now in progress. A further phase of work is also under consideration. The building has been the victim of heritage crime.
