Gunpowder factory at Powder Mills, a partially enclosed stone hut circle settlement and round cairn, Dartmoor Forest, West Devon - Dartmoor (NP)

Devon's only C19 gunpowder factory dates to 1844 and comprises at least 18 buildings involved in the production, storage and management of gunpowder. These buildings are now vacant and neglected, and there are unmanaged trees growing across the site. As a result of Historic England grant and match funding from the Duchy of Cornwall, repair works to the collapsed southern gable end of Building 9 have been undertaken. The grant will also fund arboreal works to remove trees and tree limbs that pose a wind blow threat. Tree works were undertaken in August 2019 after the end of nesting season.
