Church of St John, Sylvan Road, Upper Norwood SE19 - Croydon

Built in 1882, designed by John Loughborough Pearson. The church is located on a hill of shrinkable clay and has been subject to ongoing differential movement for many years which has resulted in substantial cracking, mainly to the south side of the building. Underpinning, stitching of the most severe cracks and securing the brick and stone vaulting in the south aisle was completed in 2017, grant-aided by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Funding through Grants for Programmes of Major Works enabled the structural repair of the inner south aisle east window.
