Church of St John, Upper Norwood, Sylvan Road SE19 - Croydon

Built in 1882, designed by John Loughborough Pearson. The church is located on a hill of shrinkable clay and has been subject to ongoing differential movement for many years which resulted in substantial cracking mainly to the south side of the building. Underpinning, stitching of the most severe cracks and securing the brick and stone vaulting in the south aisle was completed in 2017, grant-aided by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Outstanding work includes repair of weathered stone dressings and the remaining cracks externally, re-roofing and works to rainwater goods.
