Church of St John, Upper Norwood, Sylvan Road SE19 - Croydon

Built in 1882, designed by John Loughborough Pearson. The church is located on a hill of shrinkable clay and has been subject to ongoing differential movement for many years resulting in substantial cracking mainly to the south side of the building. Underpinning, stitching of the most severe cracks and securing the south aisle brick and stone vaulting was completed in 2017, grant-aided by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Outstanding work includes repair of weathered stone dressings and the remaining cracks externally and re-roofing.
