Redoubt, Main Road, Harwich - Tendring
Redoubt.1808-1810. Brick and granite. Circular plan form with internal courtyard and brick vaulted chambers. Designed as bomb-proof fortification with effective artillery power to withstand lengthy siege. Upper level contains batteries for ten 24-pounder guns. Dry moat revetment in brick. Suffering effects of excess water ingress, significant loss of pointing to inner and outer moat walls; tar/cement render causing loss of brick facings.
