Church of St Michael, South Grove, Hampstead N6 - Camden

The 1832 church is in Gothic Revival style by Louis Vulliamy. Chancel added by GE Street in 1880 which was extended by Temple Moore in 1903. The builder, William & Lewis Cubitt, used cast iron trusses and columns to support the galleries. The church, of grey brick with bath stone dressings under a slated roof, was built on the site of former Ashurst house, 1694. The condition of the spire above the tower is bad: water is leaking through joints in the spire and rusting iron cramps are causing stone to spall and fall to the ground. There is a scheme of repair in preparation.
