Church of St James, London Road, Shardlow and Great Wilne - South Derbyshire

Parish church, 1846, by H I Stevens. Four-bay nave with western tower and short chancel. The church tower has a history of structural movement and by 2016 there were concerns about numerous cracks to the second and third tower stages and through the tower parapet. There is also a long history of iron cramp damage generally with some previous repairs having failed; rainwater disposal was problematic with some gulleys blocked and there are localised roof defects also. A repair project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund is underway and should complete in late 2019.
