Church of St James, London Road, Shardlow and Great Wilne - South Derbyshire

Parish church, 1846, by H I Stevens. Four-bay nave with western tower and short chancel. There are various masonry defects including isolated open joints and weathered stonework. Of greater concern are numerous cracks to the second and third tower stages and through the tower parapet. There is a long history of iron cramp damage and some previous repairs have failed. Rainwater disposal is problematic and some gulleys are blocked. There are localised roof defects also. A Heritage Lottery Fund grant was awarded in 2016 to develop a repair project; work is expected to be completed by March 2019.
