Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Rattery - South Hams
Parish church. C13, enlarged in C15 by addition of aisles and enlargement of transepts. Restored probably c1860s. Roughcast stone with slate roofs. Internally the walls are entirely plastered with unique incised and painted decoration. This has been affected by previous high level roof leaks and more so from rising damp retained by hard cementitious external pointing which is causing significant salt damage internally. The congregation has begun to plan a campaign of repair and to consider sources of funding.
