Swaylands, Penshurst / Bidborough - Sevenoaks / Tunbridge Wells

Diminutive but important for its terraced gardens and pleasure grounds, including extensive rockwork developed in the late C19. With the house converted into apartments, the addition of several major new buildings, access roads and car parking the gardens are managed but developing piecemeal with new leisure facilities and tree planting threatening their significance and character. Understanding the significance of the lower lake, farm and kitchen garden which are in separate ownership, much neglected and subject to change through development is imperitive to ensure appropriate stewardship.
