Willis Family Monument in Churchyard, about 13 metres south of nave, Church of St Edward King and Martyr, Goathurst - Somerset Council (UA)
The Willis Family Monument, dated 1765 in contrast to the more typical chest tombs, employs a highly-decorative column. In 2015 a condition report was commissioned by St Edward’s Church, Goathurst. The report confirmed that the monument was suffering from significant structural movement through the column and the chest. The presence of corroded iron fixings within the column had exerted considerable pressure on the slender structure resulting in a level of movement which made it an immediate health and safety issue. In March 2018 the column was taken down and moved into storage.
