Old St Lawrence Church, Ayot St. Lawrence - Welwyn Hatfield

Derelict church in the village of Ayot St Lawrence, said to have been partly demolished by Sir Lyonel Lyde C18 to create a ruinous folly. C12 nave partially rebuilt. C13 north aisle. C14 chancel. Early C15 battlemented tower in 3 stages. Flint faced rubble construction with stone dressings. Decorated tracery to north windows of north chapel. No wall capping visible, stone falling and structural cracks and bow in south wall, leaning. Closed to the public for safety reasons.
