Madeira Terrace and Madeira Walk and Lift Tower and Related Buildings, Madeira Drive - Brighton and Hove, City of (UA)

The 850 metres of cast iron arches known as Madeira Terrace is the most striking feature of Brighton's eastern seafront. It is a remarkable example of C19 engineering and evocative of the late Victorian heyday of the seaside. The terrace is in a very poor and deteriorating condition. Its structural stability is a serious concern causing the 170 plus bays to be closed off to the public. The Council has published a Madeira Drive Regeneration Framework which looks at options for reactivating and revitalising Madeira Drive and Terrace.
