Oldway Mansion, Torquay Road, Oldway Mansion, Oldway Road - Torbay (UA)

Large house built in1873 to the designs of GS Bridgman for Isaac Singer, founder of the sewing machine company. Major remodelling in early C20 by Paris Singer, his son. Bought by the Borough Council (now Torbay Council) in 1945. Highly decorative French Renaissance style. Currently vacant. Water ingress at high levels has led to damp and mould internally. The building has suffered from some vandalism. Plans for future use are included in Torbay's Heritage Strategy but a clear strategy for the buiding (and site as a whole) has yet to be decided.
