Chantry Chapel and Mausoleum, Thorndon Park - Brentwood

Mid C19 private Roman Catholic chapel and mausoleum of the Petre family with a polychrome Gothic Revival interior. Designed by William Wardell and located south west of Thorndon Hall (now flats). Historic England have given Heritage at Risk grants towards three phases of external repairs to the masonry and roofs, which are approaching completion, but an extensive programme of internal conservation is still needed. The Historic Chapels Trust now own the building and plan to return it to use in connection with the opening of the adjoining burial ground.
