Church of St Mary the Less, Bury Road, Thetford - Breckland

Former church, C11 foundation but mainly late C14 with the west tower dated to C15. Closed for worship. Poor condition and has suffered from heritage crime. A scheme for residential conversion was granted consent but was not implemented. Historic England Repair Grants for Heritage at Risk grant offered towards tower repairs. Work commenced during 2019 but completion delayed by Covid-19. Tower now repaired and west end of north aisle roof received a temporary roof covering. Truss in nave roof is under repair, roof generally has many missing slates. Owner considering next steps.
