Barn 200 metres west of Hall's Farmhouse, Halls Lane, Norton - Mid Suffolk
Timber-framed and weatherboarded barn, dated to c1489 by dendrochronology. High quality timber frame with some rare features. Soleplates rotted and whole barn leaning sideways. Roof now beginning to show signs of cracking and movement at plate level. Working with the owner, a Historic England Repair Grants for Heritage at Risk grant was awarded to assist with emergency propping and the commissioning of a structural survey. Further internal propping installed to prevent partial collapse. Consent granted for conversion to a private residence, but scheme not yet implemented.
