Remains of Sibton Abbey, Sibton - Suffolk Coastal

Remains of a Cistercian abbey built in1150. Access to the site is by a causeway and bridge, the latter of medieval origins and in poor condition. Damage is occurring to the abbey ruins from vegetation growth, occasional trespass and vandalism. A condition survey has been undertaken and trees removed. Following three-way discussions between Historic England, the owners and Natural England, it is hoped that repairs to the bridge can begin in 2018, allowing safe access to the main site, and that these will be followed by a programme of repairs to the abbey ruins.
