Backbarrow Ironworks, Haverthwaite, South Lakeland - Lake District (NP)

The surviving structures of Backbarrow Ironworks represent the best illustration nationally of iron-smelting development from the early C18 to C20. Repairs to the core part of the ironworks through a Section 106 Agreement are nearing completion. The wider site is being developed as residential units. Backbarrow Ironworks Heritage Trust continues to prepare for taking on management of the monument once works are complete. A Historic England Capacity Building grant is helping the Trust to become established. A Section 17 Management Agreement will set out and fund maintenance tasks.
