Backbarrow Ironworks (unrepaired buildings including Pug Mill, storehouses and manager's house), Haverthwaite, Cumberland Council (UA) - Lake District (NP)

The surviving structures of Backbarrow Ironworks represent the best illustration nationally of iron-smelting development from the early C18 to C20. The central part of the ironworks has been repaired through a Section 106 Agreement. The wider site has been developed as residential units. Backbarrow Ironworks Heritage Trust has taken on management of the repaired buildings for public visits. Certain buildings including Pug Mill and ore storehouses were not included in the repair scheme and these remain at risk. Plans for these are being worked up and repair has started on one.
