Remains of Lea Castle at Lower Lea Farm, Lea, Lydham - Shropshire (UA)

This monument consists of fragmentary remains of a C12 castle surviving in the middle of a working farm: it was formerly a castle of the Bishops of Hereford. A Victorian house abuts the castle remains which are heavily overgrown. There is an urgent need to reduce ivy growth, to be followed by repair and consolidation of the standing masonry. A grant application has been submitted by the owner and is currently being assessed.
