19, Princelet Street, Spitalfields E1 - Tower Hamlets

Terraced house of 1719 by Samuel Worrall, builder, with added synagogue of 1869. The building combines a well-preserved Spitalfields Huguenot merchant's house with weaving garrets, and a rare surviving small synagogue. Structural issues have necessitated temporary propping in the house and the synagogue roof is neither stable nor weathertight. The owner, the Spitalfields Trust, has recently regained the lease and is working towards reopening the building as a museum. Discussions with Historic England about urgent repairs are underway.
