Bungay Castle, Bungay - East Suffolk

Medieval castle built by Roger Bigod. The majority of standing remains are structurally stable, however recent inspection identified poor condition of the wall faces and widespread deterioration of the fabric caused by weather damage. There is significant risk of falling flints and loose elements of masonry. Priority repairs have been identified. Discussions are ongoing over further repairs and conservation work to the keep, northern and southern gatehouse towers, and curtain and bailey walls. Detailed programme of repairs still needs to be agreed.
