Horseshoe Weir and Rock Weir, Bridge Foot, Belper - Amber Valley
Massive gritstone weirs and sluices developed from 1796-7 to support the adjacent mill complex. Self-seeded woody growth is displacing masonry in Horseshoe Weir (to the east of the town bridge). Masonry has been lost from the centre of Rock Weir (to the west of the town bridge). The weirs are in different ownerships and associated with adjacent property awaiting redevelopment. A condition survey of Rock Weir has been carried out. This identifies repair and maintenance needs.
