Astley Green Colliery, Higher Green Lane, Astley Green, Tyldesley - Wigan

Coal pit headgear and engine house dating from 1912. The colliery site operates as Lancashire Mining Museum. The Red Rose Steam Society manages the site on a lease from Wigan Council, and hopes to take forward a project to repair the headgear. Historic England grant-aided an updated condition survey of the headgear, which will be used as the basis for specifying repairs. Repairing and maintaining the headgear will require significant investment. The engine house has localised issues such as spalling brickwork and vegetation growth at high level. The steam engine is in good working condition.
