Deer Park wall at Berry Pomeroy Castle, Berry Pomeroy - South Hams

Medieval deer park wall, extended in the C16. Neglected, heavily overgrown with ivy and partially collapsed in places. The estate has prepared a condition survey in order to understand and monitor mechanisms of decay and to prioritise repairs. A pilot repair scheme was undertaken in 2013/14 with funding from Natural England. This was extended in 2014/15 and a team from the estate continues to make repairs for a period every summer. There have been some further areas of collapse and as of 2020 work is still required to stabilise other sections, but steady progress is being made.
