Church of St John the Evangelist, Burnley Road, Crawshawbooth, Rawtenstall - Rossendale
Former church, built in 1890-92 by important regional architect HJ Austin of Austin and Paley. Large sandstone building, a significant feature of the local area. Interior includes fine original fittings. The building has suffered from water ingress, dry rot and pigeon infestation. Closed for worship in 2012 and deteriorating since. An updated condition survey, grant-aided by Historic England, was prepared in 2020. An adjacent culvert has been repaired by the Diocese to protect the church's foundations. Plans for repair and reuse are being prepared.
