Stand First
A Stand First is an introductory paragraph displayed in larger and bolder type, which summarises the article.
When to use this component
Use this component to:
- Catch the reader’s eye
- Help the readers to gauge what the page is about
- Give the reader a clear sense of what they will find out if they read on
- Elaborate on the heading
When not to use this component
Do not use this component if the text is longer than a paragraph, use the summary field instead.
Avoid displaying a Stand First in conjunction with a page summary, as this will make the main content less visible by pushing it down the page.
Decide between using a Stand First or a Page Summary
- Use the Stand First for short paragraphs.
- The Stand First text size is larger than body text and is bold. If you display long bodies of text, the characters cannot be read by screen readers and this means that they're not good for accessibility, so we advise you use Page Summary for anything longer than a paragraph in length.
- Use Page Summary for anything longer than a Paragraph in length.
