Embley House, Wellow, Hampshire

The core of this house dates from the 16th century. It was greatly added to and altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. It was bought by the father of Florence Nightingale. She grew up here and it was the family home until 1895. Florence (1820-1910) became famous as a pioneer of women nurses, after her work in military hospitals in the Crimea.
