Hampden Monument, Chalgrove, Oxfordshire

This monument was built in 1848. It commemorates John Hampden who was killed at the battle of Chalgrove Field in 1643. The battle was only small but Colonel John Hamden was a prominent political figure. His death was a major loss to the Parliamentarians and a blow to morale.
