Zooarchaeology Reference Collection

Description and list

This document lists the current holdings of the Historic England Zooarchaeology reference collection held at Fort Cumberland, Portsmouth, that are relevant to research in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe.

A total of 3077 specimens are listed, of which 2313 are complete skeletons. These include approximately 109 species of mammal, 209 species of bird, 8 species of reptile, 5 species of amphibian and 52 species of fish. The vertebrate skeleton reference collection is available for consultation: please refer to our access policy.
