Church of St Walburge, Weston Street, Preston - Preston

Church designed by JA Hansom in a French Gothic style and begun in 1850 with later additions of the tower, tall south steeple, and apse. Highly decorative. The nave, a very large single cell vessel, has a steeply pitched hammer beam roof. The square tower is surmounted by a tall octagonal spire. The main slate roof is deteriorating with roof leaks and damp evident inside the building. A Culture Recovery Fund grant has funded works to reroof part of the nave and rebuild the top of the west gable and a further roof repair project is planned.
