Redoubt, Main Road, Harwich - Tendring

Built in1808, the Redoubt is a fort on high ground overlooking the ancient port of Harwich. Constructed as a chain of defences against the threat of a Napoleonic invasion. A survey identified excess dampness tracking into the central part of the fort through constructional defects largely in the brickwork. Some of the brickwork at high level on the outer defences are loose and there is extensive and damaging organic growth behind it. Historic England Repairs Grant and National Lottery Heritage funding awarded for pilot repair and project development is underway.
