St John's Smith Square Concert Hall, Smith Square Sw1 SW1 - Westminster, City of

Former parish Church of St John the Evangelist, designed by Thomas Archer and built 1713- 28 in an elaborate Baroque style. Bombed in World War II and restored as a concert hall in 1965-68 by Marshall Sisson. Recent inspections via rope access revealed the poor condition of some of the masonry, especially the towers, including spalling, fractures and open joints due to structural movement. The Southbank Sinfonia at St John's Smith Square is developing plans for its repair.
