The Long Shop, Main Street, Leiston - East Suffolk
The Long Shop, built in1853 for the manufacture of portable steam engines is now the centrepiece of this museum of industrial heritage. Red brick with yellow brick dressings. The pan tiled roof with three louvered ventilators at ridge level is in need of re-covering; 1970s glazed roof lights leak and require replacing; external window joinery in dangerous condition; rainwater disposal arrangements require redesign. The Museum are working up a detailed scheme to address the long term repair issues having received a grant from Arts Council England under the Museum Estate Development [MEND] fund.
