The Western Heights fortifications, Dover - Dover

The largest most elaborate C19th fortress in England: a spectacular complex of earthworks and structures. At risk from lack of co-ordinated management, maintenance and use; poor connectivity and visitor infrastructure; unmanaged vegetation; and heritage crime. However, exemplary work by the Western Heights Preservation Trust over many years has conserved and opened some parts. A sustainable future will need partnership, investment and action.Historic England grant to Dover DC will help volunteers and conservation, build partnerships, support events, improve management and connect to the town.
