Friar Gate has many fine buildings dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. These would have been town houses for wealthy people but are now mainly used as shops. This building dates from the 17th century and has 2 gables, very typical of buildings of this date. It is one of only a few timber framed buildings in Derby.
