A radiographer and assistant lifting mobile radiography and X-ray equipment from a van. Mobile X-ray units, designed by Marie Curie, had been used during World War One. By 1939 reliable and shockproof portable radiography equipment was available. The British Army was supplied with a robust model that could be transported in a crate.
