Aerial View Wolvesey Castle (Old Bishop's Palace), Winchester, Hampshire

Reconstruction drawing showing an aerial view of the Old Bishop's Palace, later known as Wolvesey Castle. It shows it as it may have appeared at the end of Bishop Henry's reign in about 1170. Wolvesey Castle was the palace of the Bishops of Winchester. It was built by the bishop Henry de Blois in c1130 - 71. The castle was destroyed by the Roundheads during the Civil War (1646). This site is now in the care of English Heritage.
