Arch from former St Mary's Benedictine Nunnery, Chester, Cheshire

This arch is all that remains of a former nunnery. It was rebuilt in this park from rubble found elsewhere in the city. A Benedictine Nunnery had been founded in c1140 by Ranulph de Gernon, Earl of Chester. It was within the West wall of the city. It was dissolved in c1540.
