Bradshawgate, Leigh, Greater Manchester

The thatched premises of Peter Ranicar, clog maker, on Bradshawgate. The large clog hanging above the door advertises the business. Wooden clogs with nailed soles were commonly worn in industrial areas. They were hardwearing and kept feet dry when roads or factory floors were wet. The photograph dates from the late Victorian period.
