Church Street, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire

John R Dring was a Draper and Clothier. His shop is shown on the corner of Church Street and White Hart Street. Drapers sold fabric, sewing materials and linen items such as serviettes, tablecloths and underwear. Clothiers sold clothes, including children's clothes in this case. The street is busy, with people standing outside the shop. The day is sunny and all the blinds are down. A horse and cart can be seen coming up White Hart Street. The pile of horse droppings in the foreground is a reminder of how dirty streets would get at this time. The young boy wearing an apron would have been employed as an errand boy - maybe at Drings. This photograph was taken as part of the Victoria County History project.
