Colstons Almshouses, St Michael's Hill, Bristol

The Almshouse is dated 1691. It was restored in 1861and 1988. It was founded by and named after the Bristol philanthropist Edward Colston. Colston was a Bristol merchant who made money from the slave trade. He used his wealth charitably founding schools and hospitals as well as almshouses. His name is very common in Bristol where streets and buildings were named after him.
