Corfe Castle sits in the gap in the Purbeck Hills above the village of the same name. In the backgroud, the newly built railway line can be seen; the railway reached Corfe Castle in 1885. The line closed in January 1972. Steam trains now (2011) run from the village car park to the castle and on to Swanage.
