Dartmouth Castle, Dartmouth, Devon

The northern gun platform and round tower with cannon overlooking the Dart estuary. Construction of Dartmouth Castle began in the late 14th century in order to protect the merchants of Dartmouth. It was one of the earliest castles designed for artillery. This site is now in the care of English Heritage (2010).
