Dray horses at the 'Mint Stables', Paddington Station, Westminster, London

Many people thought that the railways would cause the end of horse-drawn transport. Ironically, the rail companies became the largest users of horses in the country. So many were used for shunting and making deliveries at Paddington that an old mint was converted into stables to house them.
