Etloe House, Church Road, Leyton, Greater London

This large house dates from 1760-70. It was refronted in the early 19th century. It is coated with stucco and is symmetrical in design. It has a crenellated parapet, octagonal corner buttresses and a crenellated porch. Etloe House was the home of William Bowyer (1699-1777) friend of Dr Johnson and proprietor of The Gentleman's Magazine, also of Cardinal Wiseman.
