Former Elastic Webbing Factory, Henshaw Street, Leicester

This elastic webbing factory was built in 1893 by Stott and Sons of Oldham & Manchester. It is iron framed with brick cladding and is an extremely early example of an exposed iron frame building. The elastic web industry in Leicester dates from 1839. Elastic webbing was first designed for use in braces, then quickly adapted for the wrists of gloves, the tops of stockings and later for boots.
