Gregory's Stone Quarry Number 2, Wilsford Heath, Lincolnshire

Limestone was laid down in bedding planes which here are horizontal. A line of holes is drilled and a `plug¿ (or wedge) is inserted into each between two `feathers¿ (or thin plates). The plugs are then driven home using a sledge hammer, and the rock splits along the line.
