High Street, Chippenham, Wiltshire

A modern print of a earlier photographic print dating to around 1860. It shows a view from the Market Place in Chippenham, looking north-west into the High Street. The White Lion public house is to the left of the frame. There is a mixture of working people and more middle class people in the street. The building on the right with 3 gables is the only one in the row that has not got a flat, stone, facade dating from the Georgian period. The 2 buildings to its right show clearly how new facades were built onto the fronts of the older buildings.
