History Faculty, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

The design of the History Faculty building was the subject of a limited competition held in 1963. The winning design was conceived by James Stirling. The concept was that its hub should be the library, 'the motivating element of the Faculty. It was built in 1964-8. It was awarded a Royal Institute of British Architects Gold Medal in 1970. It was also renovated in 1985-6 by Bickerdike Allen.
